Why run instead of walk

More city, less time

An hour on foot gets you a few streets. Running gets you the old town, the lake and a viewpoint — and back before your first meeting.

A local, not a script

Born and based in Lucerne. You get the stories, the shortcuts, and an honest answer when you ask where people who live here actually eat.

People worth meeting

Small groups only. Runners from everywhere, travelling for work or for pleasure, who would all rather be moving than queueing.

Free, genuinely

No ticket, no booking fee, no sales pitch at the end. A tip is welcome if you enjoyed it, and never expected.

Choose your run

Four routes, four moods. Pick by distance and by what you want to see.

Your guide

Hi, I'm Philippe

Hi, I'm Philippe

I'm a runner from Lucerne — trails, city loops, and a weakness for hills that look worse than they are. Off the road you'll find me playing padel or on a mountain bike. Born and based here, I know the streets, the climbs, and the corners that never make it onto a map.

My idea is simple: give runners of every level, age and background a free, genuinely enjoyable way to see this city together. No tour-guide voice, no flag in the air. Just a run with someone who knows the place.

Runs are guided in: English, German, Swiss German and French

I reply personally, usually within a day, with the exact meeting spot.

Show up and run

We start on time, run together, stop where it's worth stopping, and finish where we started.

Coffee, optional

Most groups end up at a café, or in the lake in summer. Nobody has to stay — most people do.

Good to know

We run at the slowest pace

The group adapts to whoever is slowest, always. Nobody gets dropped, and nobody has to apologise for their pace.

What to bring

Running shoes and clothing for the weather. There's water along the route. Travelling without running shoes? Mention it when you sign up.

Next runs

Groups are deliberately small, so book early.

Questions runners ask

Is it really free?

Yes. No fee, no deposit, no ticket. Run & See started as a way to share the city, not as a business. If you enjoyed the run, a tip at the end is welcome — but it's entirely your call, and nobody is treated differently for not tipping.

How fit do I need to be?

For the Good Morning Scenic Run, being comfortable over 5–6 km at a pace where you can still talk is enough. Heritage and Hidden Gems suit runners who train regularly. The Top Views Challenge climbs 250–300 m and is for experienced runners only. Whichever you pick, the group runs at the pace of the slowest person.

What language do you run in?

English, German, Swiss German or French — whichever suits the group. Mixed groups usually end up in English. Tell me your preference when you sign up.

How big are the groups?

Small on purpose — usually a handful of runners. It keeps the group together at traffic lights and makes conversation possible. It's also why booking early matters.

I'm travelling without running shoes. Can I still join?

Possibly. Mention it in the message field when you sign up and I'll see what I can organise in common sizes. No promises, but it's worth asking.

What happens if it rains?

We run. Lucerne is beautiful in the rain and the routes stay open. Runs are only called off in genuinely unsafe conditions — thunderstorms, ice — and you'll hear from me by email if that happens.

Do you stop for photos?

Yes. Every route has planned stops at the best viewpoints, and pausing for a photo is never a problem. This is a run through a city, not a time trial.

Can we run at a different time or on a different route?

Often, yes. Use the message field to tell me what you have in mind. Early mornings, lunch breaks and evenings all work; groups arriving together can usually get a dedicated slot.

Where exactly do we meet?

At the Chapel Bridge in the centre of Lucerne, at the southern end next to the Water Tower — ten minutes on foot from the main station. You'll get the exact spot and a map link with your confirmation.

Is there somewhere to leave my bag?

Not at the meeting point. Come with as little as you can, or use the lockers at Lucerne main station on your way.
